URI SEC Actually Takes A Step Backwards And Gets A Country Singer To Come To The Ryan Center

What the fuck!? What the fucking fuck?! That’s gotta be a joke, right? I made my complaint earlier about how stupid bullshit artists are coming here, but when they finally get someone who can play an actual instrument and sing they get a god damn country singer who I’ve never heard of in my life. Were not in fucking Alabama were up in Rhode Island. You know… The Northeast? Where maybe 5 percent of people listen to country music?

Fuck this shit. This better not be the big spring concert because at most this concert will get 200 people. The SEC is lucky that I don’t attend their meetings, and I’m also happy I don’t go to these meetings because I’d go to jail for the murder of the person who thought this would be a good idea. My day has been ruined. Fuck you.

The (Late) Complaint Post About Bullsh*t Artists Coming To URI

So yeah. I feel like the SEC is done with planning concerts for this semester.  Theres usually about 2-3 concerts at the ryan center, and one comedian. Every semester I have high hopes for URI’s SEC.  I mean, they can afford to get DJ tiesto to come to the Ryan Center. One of the top 3 DJs in the world. No problem. That was a fantastic show. I had a great time, I got drunk, I danced, and I left early because it was the same thing for the 2 and a half hours I was there and I’m kind of a pussy I guess. I don’t know…

Then they got Avicii to come. Same shit. In fact, he played some of the SAME FUCKING SONGS that Tiesto did. I know this is something that DJs do all the time. They just “drop” (not play, drop.) songs by other DJs. Can someone explain why thats acceptable? If that was done by an artist in every other genre everyone would be like “what the fuck are they doing?” So it’s pretty much a famous DJ doing what a DJ at a party does. Hits play, plays other peoples songs, and makes transitions. Not saying these shows aren’t fun, but we do this shit every time we go to the bar or a house party.

Then they bring a bunch of shitty hip hop artists that are never ever good live. Kid Cudi and Wiz were a disgrace to music.

Third Eye Blind came to the Ryan Center last semester, and it was one of the best concerts of my life. They absolutely killed it. Stephan Jenkins worked the crowd and Brad Hargreaves had a dope drum solo that involved dubstep. Unfortunately, the crowd was not sold out. Probably half the arena was full. If URI brought bigger rock bands and dished out money on college friendly artists like Incubus,311, Coldplay, Maroon 5, DMB, Kings Of Leon, the list could go on. They would sell out just as quickly as Tiesto, and it would bring something different to the table.

My point is, URI can afford to pay for some of the biggest artists in that genre. That means the can afford to pack the Ryan Center with real fucking musicians that can put on a mind blowing show. Instead, this year they give us a B list house DJ who is gonna “drop” the same fucking songs you heard twice last year and another shit rapper who will probably do the same bullshit as Cudi, Wiz, and J Cole.

Not every single student here is into house music. I’m doing my best to let people know that.

…Except I’m not really gonna do anything about it. I’d rather just complain. Fuck me right?

Bro Microwaves Socks and Underwear. Promptly Burns Down House.

Source-British firefighters say they saved an apartment from destruction after its domestically challenged resident tried to dry his wet socks and underwear in a microwave oven. The Dorset Fire and Rescue Service says firefighters rescued the man from his home and extinguished the kitchen blaze Monday.”The fire safety message here is to never put clothing of any kind in the microwave or an oven to attempt to dry them,” the Dorset firefighters said in a statement.

I’m gonna stand behind this British bloke. I get it. Nobody wants to wear wet socks or underwear. It would be such a waste of  power to put a few socks and undies in the dryer alone. Think about it. A microwave practically does the same thing. It heats things up and dries shit out. In fact, if I could, I would put my undies and socks in the microwave every morning before I got dressed. What is better than slipping on a warm pair of undies fresh from the drier? Nothing. You could offer me a Porsche or a pair of warm socks…warm socks wins 10 times out of 10.

Steve Aoki Taking You Into the Weekend

Ok, here is your Friday night pre-game jam! I’m partly posting this because I’m super excited for Steve Aoki to be coming to URI in the fall. Who wouldn’t be excited? Steve Aoki is the man! He is probably the most energetic DJ on the scene that I know of. I can’t wait for Steve to be popping bottles of champagne into the crowd and crowd surfing on the SS. Aoki!

Not Another Spring Mix!

http://soundcloud.com/kapslap/kap-slap-spring-break-mix

Introducing Kap Slap, arguably my favorite mash-up artist (3LEAU and Jane Doze are up there too). Kap Slap dropped a terrific album about a month ago, which you can download for free from his Soundcloud. Enjoy the music, and if you have any music requests, send them to RhodyViewBlog@gmail.com.

Rage Big! We do!

Avicii Recap

There was some relief when Avicii finally made it onto the stage last night. Everyone knew there would be no postponement or cancellation.  I had a good time last night. I thought he had terrific song selection, with the exception of one thing. He played almost no Dutch music (Tiesto, Hardwell, Afrojack, Laidback Luke, etc.) I think he sampled around 30-60 seconds of Afrojack in the first five minutes of coming on, but if he played any Dutch music, I must have missed it (which is not likely). It was almost all Sweedish music.

Favorite tracks played last night:

Calling (vocal remix)- Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso ft. Ryan Tedder

Sweede Dreams- Avicii

One side note: I thought that the house of hunger logo was designed a  little bit too close to a swastika. I was a bit uncomfortable seeing it the first few times.
